Testing one, two, VoIP…

Minacom, service quality test automation supplier to telcos and cable MSOs, and Sunrise Telecom Incorporated, a solutions provider for testing and monitoring solutions for voice, video, data services and next-generation digital multimedia, announced today they will work together to provide integrated test solutions for telcos and cable multiple system operators offering VoIP and IP-Video services.

The partnership carries a mission statement promising to focus on combining the centralized test capabilities offered by Minacom’s DirectQuality R7 service level test automation platform with the network and service test functionality available in Sunrise Telecom’s handheld FTTx, DSL, and cable test sets. By combining Minacom’s platform and Sunrise Telecom’s field experience with portable test instruments, service providers are promised control over tests remotely and the ability to review results from field-portable test sets.

VoIP test calls are placed by Minacom’s PowerProbe 6000 from a gateway T1 or IP interface directly to a two-wire jack in a private home. This technique seeks to captures the full range of analog and IP/network impairments that commonly affect VoIP phone quality; over sixty impairments are reportedly possible to measure in under sixty seconds, including MOS, echo, noise, loss, delay, touch tone transmission and fax connection performance.

IPTV, Video-on-Demand (VoD), and digital-media quality tests are conducted by a PowerProbe located in the head-end/super head-end, or video server farm. Results from tests are centrally stored on Minacom’s DirectQuality R7 server, featuring a web-based OSS used for reporting, service performance analysis and fault management, and automation for service quality monitoring.

With results stored on a centralized test server, field technicians and operations personnel can access current and historical test data from Sunrise Telecom’s test sets, internet browser, or web-enabled mobile devices.

Minacom systems are web-controlled by a centralized server platform that integrates operational experience into test setups, test strategies and result analysis rules from over seventy operators and switch manufacturers including AT&T, Comcast, France Telecom, Liberty Global, Primus, Orange, Clearwire, VSNL, Bellsouth, Siemens, Cedar Point and Ericsson.

Sunrise Telecom is based in San Jose, Calif., and distributes its products through a direct sales force and a network of sales representatives and distributors throughout Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, North America, and Latin America.
