Open open for business

OpenMFG, a provider of open source-based enterprise solutions for small manufacturers and distributors, today announced the second major release of its cross-platform, open source report writer and rendering engine, OpenRPT. OpenRPT is available under a dual-license model, with open source under the GNU General Public License and commercial source code license with OpenMFG available.

OpenRPT 2.0 was reportedly “retooled from the ground up to take full advantage of the underlying Qt 4 framework.” Among new OpenRPT features touted by enabling the update from Qt 3 to Qt 4 is the ability to export to Adobe PDF natively for both the OpenRPT API and the rendering application. Other new features include support for generic ODBC database connections; enhanced page break functionality; and power tools for developers such as command-line arguments and parameters, multiple document printing, and advanced error trapping.

Since its release as an open source project in 2005, OpenRPT has repotedly been downloaded over 30,000 times, and is available for Windows, Linux/Unix, Mac OS X, or as an end-user desktop tool. The OpenRPT project is hosted at SourceForge.net and pgFoundry.org.

OpenMFG, LLC develops enterprise resource planning software applications powered by open source software such as Linux, PostgreSQL, and Qt.
