India in the Olympic Games

Over at India Times’ online edition, there’s a good piece on Amdocs and their contribution to the 2008 Olympic Games’ CRM structure. Writing that India’s “software professionals have already earned their laurels,” author Gouri Athale reports that “The development centre of the $2.48 billion Amdocs here in Pune has developed the billing and customer relationship management systems for Beijing Mobile, which the cellular phone service provider will deploy during the Games.”

Dov Baharav, Amdocs Management Ltd president/CEO has also recently promised to “scale up their presence in the country by opening a second centre, investing ‘an additional half a billion dollars.’” As for the future, Baharav was quoted as saying, “Strategically, we are now focusing on the emerging markets of Russia, Latin America, China and India. We have already tied up two Indian customers, Reliance and VSNL and we intend to intensify our sales activity here. We have installed the operating service system for VSNL and done a CRM installation for Reliance.”

Further, “A major part of our future plans is for the portal or web-based. In markets where saturation has been reached in the telecom market, the issue is how to reduce costs and increase the customer’s experience. It is possible to do both by moving to Web-based or self service. On the ‘net, you can buy what you want with the minimum of discussion with a representative. We are doing this, through a company we acquired, which has a platform for content delivery and we already have a digital services shop. The Web is at the centre of our activity.”
