A Move2Open for Allagaier

Representatives from Move2Open, a data migration and application conversion solutions provider, have announced the successful transfer of Allgaier onto the Windows platform. Allgaier is a systems supplier in the metal forming sector of the automotive industry and was making the jump from an old mainframe soution. In 2004, Allgaier migrated its mainframe IT into a standard ERP solution. Those applications left not covered by the solution were addressed in this recent transfer, with Allgaier using Move2Open I2C and Micro Focus NetExpress in transferring the programs.

The migration from the old IBM Multiprise 3000 to Windows servers represented thirteen months’ worth of work. Problems surfaced due to Allgaier’s decision to keep some old material and project data on the mainframe for two years, resulting in some serious unwanted expense what with a running IBM T3 server and software licenses. Consequently, Allgaier decided to migrate this project data to Oracle with the help of Saxonia Systems AG and the I2C tool.

From CA-Datacom to Oracle and CA-IDEAL to Micro Focus COBOL, the migration took place inside of one month. The “historic” project programs are now running on Windows 2003 servers and the application behaves exactly as it did on the mainframe. The changes have reportedly not dramatically affected end users, and Allgaier IT guys suggest that application performance has even improved after the migration. "The cost savings of not having to renew a Datacom licence or maintain an IBM-T3-server have been significant," concluded one Allgaier representative.
