SugarCRM Announces Upcoming Release of iPhone/iPad Apps

SugarCRM, the open source customer relationship management (CRM) solution provider, announced that its 6.1 version is going mobile. The CRM company will create an iPhone and iPad application. Eventually, it will create BlackBerry and Android applications.

The mobile SugarCRM features will only be available for enterprise business users. Open source Sugar CRM users can access their SugarCRM accounts through mobile browsers, although this is not as fast or convenient.

SugarCRM is following in its competitor, Salesforce.com’s, footsteps. It will be adding a social networking tool, like Salesforce.com’s Chatter which enables employees to update and message each other easily. SugarCRM’s networking tools will have Twitter and LinkedIn integration.

The senior communications director at SugarCRM, Martin Schneider, said that the mobile capabilities of SugarCRM 6.1 are only a part of the upcoming features. Schneider explained that SugarCRM is targeting Salesforce as one of its main competitors. SugarCRM’s open source features allow the company to undercut Salesforce.com by over 30 percent. The CEO of SugarCRM, Larry Augustin, also commented on this. He said, “This mix of Open Source and commercially licensed software offerings has allowed us to build a successful business while creating an innovative, award winning, affordable and open CRM solution.”

SugarCRM 6.1 and the mobile applications will be released sometime soon. There is a beta version of SugarCRM 6.1 available now.
