Salesforce.com Expands to Japan

Yesterday, the enterprise cloud computing company, Salesforce.com, announced its plans to set up a new data center in Japan. A partner of the cloud computing giant, NTT Communications (NTT Com), is working with Salesforce to establish the Tokyo center, which is being established to further support the cloud computing services that Salesforce.com has to offer.

The data center is specifically intended to support Salesforce’s customer base in Japan, which is rapidly growing. Marc Benioff, Salesforce.com’s CEO and chairman, commented on Salesforce’s international expansion. He said, “Salesforce.com has seen explosive growth in Japan. NTT Com has been a trusted partner for many years, and we look forward to expanding our relationship with them on the new data center to support continued customer success in the region.”

The cloud service market in Japan has rapidly grown. By 2015, it is expected to reach around 2.4 billion yen, according to a report by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. In terms of speed and price competition, Japan ranks number one in comparison to 24 other countries in the information and communications industry. Salesforce.com is taking advantage of this expanding market. Setting up a data center in Japan will help the cloud computing company grow and reach millions of new Asian customers.

NTT Com, an IT service and management solutions provider, is proud to be working with Salesforce.com. The Senior Executive Vice President of NTT Com, Shinobu Umino, commented. He said, “I am delighted that salesforce.com has chosen NTT Com as their data center partner in Japan based on their recognition of our proven data center operations in some 100 locations worldwide, and our ability to provide top-level architecture, equipment and security. We have established a trusted relationship through our offering of Salesforce over VPN, and now we look forward to salesforce.com using our top-quality data center services to provide highly reliable cloud services.”

The Salesforce.com Tokyo base is expected to be ready in 2011.
