LANDesk lands

Integrated systems, security and business process management solutions provider LANDesk Software, today announced the release of LANDesk Service Desk. Service Desk is designed to enable delivery of improved support and service through standardization and automation.

The solution is the result of a licensing agreement and development relationship with Torchwood, a UK-based provider of IT business management solutions. LANDesk Service Desk is designed to integrate with LANDesk Management Suite, LANDesk Security Suite and LANDesk Process Manager to offer a more complete customer support solution.

LANDesk Service Desk is designed to combine process driven call management, role-based privilege sets, automatic actions, assignment, service levels and escalation, and will be applicable equally to both external-facing customer service functions and public-facing information services.

The program is touted as an ideal solution to support industry and governmental regulations such as Six Sigma, SOX and HIPAA, and promises to meet functional requirements for ITIL compatibility, potentially providing an end-to-end solution covering IT service management, customer service solutions, network management and systems management in a modular form.

LANDesk Service Desk is expected to be available through LANDesk expert solution providers starting in August 2006. For 1,000 employees and ten service desk analysts, pricing begins at US $40,800, which includes the core solution, the LANDesk Service Desk server component, the e-mail manager, the core knowledgebase, and the service portal. Additional fees apply for additional consoles and desktop management connectors.

Headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, LANDesk Software is a provider of systems, security, and process management solutions for desktops, servers and mobile devices. LANDesk enables thousands of organizations to easily deploy and use end-to-end management solutions. LANDesk has offices in the Americas, Europe and Asia.

The actual ownership of LANDesk is still a fuzzy issue, as LANDesk owners announced the signing of a letter of intent to be purchased by Avocent Corporation on 27 April 2006. Deal completion was expected for within 60-75 days of the signing, but has yet to occur.
